Afai Nayak Heroes: Stories of Strength, Survival, and Purpose
The heart of GHAR’s Migrant Worker health initiative is the lived experience of workers and families affected by occupational illness. Through the Afai Nayak Heroes series, GHAR honors individuals whose stories reveal the human cost of unsafe work, extreme heat, delayed diagnosis, kidney disease, and gaps in protection. Sagar and Surendra are among the first Afai Nayak Heroes featured in this campaign. Their stories help transform Migrant Worker health from a distant policy issue into a human story of courage, responsibility, family, survival, and the urgent need for prevention. These stories are shared with dignity and purpose: not to portray them as victims, but as Survivors. And to recognize them as heroes whose experiences can educate communities, guide policy, and inspire action.
